Miley Cyrus has revealed that she doesn’t identify as either gender in an interview with Out Magazine.
The same week she revealed that not all of her relationships have been heterosexual, Miley Cyrus has revealed that she does not conform to any particular gender.
She has also praised Bruce Jenner as her “hero” following his revealing interview with Diane Sawyer, in which he spoke about being transgender.
“I didn’t want to be a boy,” she told Out magazine. “I kind of wanted to be nothing. I don’t relate to what people would say defines a girl or a boy, and I think that’s what I had to understand: Being a girl isn’t what I hate, it’s the box that I get put into.”
During a press tour for her new LGBT and homeless-focused charity Happy Hippie Foundation, the 22 year-old has revealed that though she does not conform to gender stereotypes, she has not explicitly stated that she identifies as genderqueer.
In response to her Out interview, Cyrus tweeted the excerpt about not conforming to gender expectations and captioned “NOTHING can/will define me! Free to be EVERYTHING!!!”
