Oscars 2015 Nominations

oscars

Earlier this afternoon, the Oscars 2015 nominations were announced. With a few Golden Globes upsets earlier this week, we were all a tad curious to see who made the cut.

There were many delights for Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel gaining nine nominations each, it will no doubt be a good day for them on February 22.

It wasn’t all delight, however, as one would have expected. Selma has been majorly let down this year with the Academy nominating the film for a mere two awards. Let’s just say people on Twitter weren’t well-pleased.

Some other surprises were Jennifer Aniston’s snub for her role in Cake along with Foxcatcher losing out on a nomination for Best Picture.

There were some not-so-surprising results, with Meryl Streep nominated for Into the Woods, as always and the generally expected nominees for the main categories.

However, there were some delights for our very own community; The Imitation Game received eight nominations in total for telling the story of mathematical genius, Nazi code-slayer and gay martyr Alan Turing.

Neil Patrick Harris will host the Oscars 2015 on February 22.
