GCN favourites Pillow Queens are back with their excellent new single, ‘Brothers’. The fact it’s accompanied by a deeply moving music video directed by Kate Dolan makes it even better.

Helping to build anticipation for their debut album due in 2020, ‘Brothers’ is an ode to beloved friends. As the band described, “It touches on a shared grief which drives you to hold dear the memories and moments you have with each other. While this song can be considered one about mourning, it’s ultimately about the intense love you have for your chosen family.”

While the lyrics sing “There goes the man I want to be. I love my brother and my brother loves me,” a beautiful video about friendship plays out. It features two friends who gain the ability to stop time and the story progresses we begin to see what they have lost and what they have found in each other.

The video was directed by the equally awesome Kate Dolan who also collaborated with the Queens on their epic ‘Gay Girls’ video, the song going on to be nominated for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize. Kate is no stranger to acclaim herself, her short horror film Catcalls creating a sensation at festivals across the world.

Earlier this year, Pillow Queens basically broke the Irish gay internet when they graced the cover of GCN in an homage to The Favourite. The gang have built up incredible momentum, gathering accolades as they go. In the next month alone, they will play gigs in Los Angeles and Iceland, and, as we speak, they are gearing up for a gig as part of the Puca festival. That audience are in for some treat.
