There’s nothing like a romance novel to warm you up this winter, and this list brings the heat. If you thought all holiday romances were straight, think again. From lesbian lumberjacks to gay Jack Skelington, these books have it all! We’re giving you just the right material to get both festive and freaky this season.

1. You’re a Mean One, Matthew Prince – Timothy Janovsky

If Schitt’s Creek is your kind of comedy, this book’s for you. When a PR mishap gets him cut off, the titular character Matthew Prince turns into a textbook Grinch. With a small-town setting, a charity gala, and Christmas spirit, It’s as if the long-awaited gay Hallmark movie has been packaged up in a novel. The grump x holiday hunk pairing is just the bow on top.

2. Kiss Her Once for Me – Alice Cochrun

This Christmas romance takes sexual tension to the ski slopes on a family vacation that these characters will never forget. With a hot butch love interest and messy dynamics, Alice Cochran gives us sapphics in the snow for the holiday season.

3. 10 Things That Never Happened – Alexis Hall

Set during Christmas time, this novel subverts the amnesia trope—as in, the main character doesn’t have it. After a bump on the head, our couple is thrown together when manager Sam Becker pretends he can’t remember anything to avoid being sacked by his boss Jonathan Forest. Full of shenanigans and smiles, this book and its holiday backdrop will have you swooning by the end.

4. The Nightmare Before Kissmas – Sara Raasch

Is The Nightmare Before Christmas a holiday movie? We don’t have the answer to that question, but we did include this romance on our list. In every queer couple, there is one who is crazy for Christmas and another who turns it out for Halloween. The main couple of this book embodies that dynamic. Representing different holidays, these polar opposite princes can’t get enough of each other, even if their love is off-limits.

5. I’ll be gone for Christmas – Georgia K. Boone

The Holiday gets a queer twist in this one. When two women on opposite sides of the United States need a break from their respective locales, they decide to trade places for the Christmas season. Whether you prefer a snowy cottage or sun and sand for your holiday, you’ve got both settings to scratch that scenic itch. They aren’t just there to experience the weather; ex-finances and sisters make this swap steamy, and it’s sure to satisfy.

6. Most Wonderful – Georgia Clark

This three-in-one romance follows a family just trying to make it through the holidays at their eccentric mother’s manor. All the half-siblings have something going on with their love life, and boy does this family make the Yuletide gay.

7. It’s a Fabulous Life – Kelly Farmer

It’s a Wonderful Life gets a drag makeover in this sapphic romance. Overwhelmed and sick of her hometown, Bailey George dreams of the big city, but when her trip is interrupted by a sick coworker, she has no choice but to stay home for the holidays. However, when a drag queen with a little more than stage magic makes her wish come true, to never be born in her suffocating small town, Bailey has to come face to face with a new reality.

8. Make the Season Bright – Ashley Herring Blake

Just because it’s Christmas time doesn’t mean we can’t get lesbians getting with their ex-girlfriends. Ashley Herring Blake knows what the sapphics want, and it’s the first girl who broke their heart. Stuck in the same house during the holidays, Charlotte and Sloan have to pretend they don’t know each other. Cinnamon and holly aren’t the only things in the air this season, and the fire isn’t the only thing being rekindled. Don’t text your ex! Do read this cute Christmas tale.

10. Season of Love – Helena Greer

You are seeing the cover correctly. That is a butch lumberjack. When Miriam’s great-aunt passes away and leaves her with a Christmas tree business, she has no choice but to uproot her life in the city to run the failing farm. The kicker: she doesn’t even celebrate Christmas. She’s Jewish. This romance has everything to keep us warm this holiday season.

11. Mistletoe & Mishigas – MA Wardell

Sometimes you need a comfort fic to get you through the holidays. This isn’t that, but it’s got all the stuff that makes fanfiction great. There’s a school teacher main character. His ex is getting married. Oh no, the wedding’s on Christmas Eve. OH NO, he needs a date. Does the grumpy janitor need a date too? Oh yes. Boom, all the makings of a romance. There’s Jewish rep too, making the novel perfect for anyone no matter what holiday they celebrate.

If you thought we were done with holiday princes, boy were you wrong. At the very least, you’ll get a laugh out of this one. Keep an eye out for this modern-day Shakespeare when it hits the shelves next November because it’s certainly the Irish representation we need.
