Rumours have been swirling about the relationship status of Orange is the New Black actress Samira Wiley and the show’s writer Lauren Morelli – but now they have made it clear…
Wiley, who plays Poussey Washington on the hit Netflix series, stepped out hand-in-hand with girlfriend Lauren Morelli at Monday night’s Emmy Awards. The pair left an Emmy after party together at luxury Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles.
Both Wiley and Morelli have been posting cute photos of eachother on their Instagram accounts for months, begging the question, “more than friends?”
Rumours reached their peak when Morelli officially stepped out of the closet, revealing that she fell in love with a woman and ended her marriage with her husband. A life event that she said inspired Piper and Larry’s storyline in Orange is the New Black.
“I realised I was gay in fall 2012, one of my first days on the set. It wasn’t so much one thing, but the sum of many small details: how uncomfortable I felt around groups of lesbians or how I considered myself (shrug) a ‘not very sexual person’” she said when she came out through a blog post this year.
“I went through it all on set: I fell in love with a woman, and I watched my life play out on screen. And now, as we are gearing up for the release of season 2, it feels liberating and appropriate to live my life in front of you.”
Congratulations, Samira and Lauren!
