"There have always been, and there always will be, queer Irish speakers, stories, and people. ‘Ceannasacht’ demands that fact to live on.”

SexyTadhg, Ireland’s audacious LGBTQ+ breakout star, makes a powerful return with ‘Ceannasacht’, a sultry, jazz-infused single that reclaims the Irish language for queer identity.

Known for their fearless theatrical artistry and unapologetic queer presence, SexyTadhg has quickly carved out a unique space in Ireland’s musical landscape. From supporting The Mary Wallopers on tour, including a standout set at Dublin’s Fairview Park, to national radio rotation and multiple Irish television appearances, Tadhg is proving to be one of the country’s most vital new voices.

At the heart of this new release is a powerful mission: to reintroduce queer expression into a language from which it has long been erased. “I wanted to boldly reintroduce queer identities into Gaeilge, so I wrote ‘Ceannasacht’,” the artist explains. “The Irish language was almost completely lost in the early 20th century due to colonisation. While it was revived through education, any hint of queerness or individuality was scrubbed out of it. ‘Ceannasacht’ insists that we exist in the language and always have.”

Musically, ‘Ceannasacht’ is lush and genre-fluid. Drawing inspiration from D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and Hiatus Kaiyote, the single melts together elements of jazz, neo-soul, R&B and big band arrangements, all anchored by SexyTadhg’s silky vocals. The result is a hypnotic blend of sensuality, power and defiance.

Lyrically, the track is a celebration of sexual exploration and queer identity, all expressed through the revitalised, reimagined lens of the Irish language. The chorus captures the energy at the song’s core: “I said, oh mo, oh mo, oh dhia / Is íomhann liom do ceannasacht / I said, oh mo, oh mo, oh dhia / Táim faoi do smacht”.

Which translates to: “I said, oh my, oh my, oh my god / I love your dominance / I said, oh my, oh my, oh my god / I’m under your control”.

This latest single offers a taste of what’s to come from the upcoming EP Sexy, which promises a deeply personal and flamboyantly theatrical journey through sex, rebellion and the beauty of queer life in Ireland.

Already praised by BBC Radio 6 Music, RTÉ 2FM, The Irish TimesNotion, Clash and more, SexyTadhg has delivered acclaimed performances at the Dublin Fringe Festival, Electric Picnic, Beyond the Pale, Other Voices, The GALAS Awards and even shared the stage with Eurovision icon Loreen.

With headline shows lined up in London, Cork and Dublin, summer slots set for Letterkenny Pride and All Together Now, and ‘Ceannasacht’ in their repertoire, SexyTadhg is poised to lead a bold new wave of Irish music, one that’s unashamedly queer, joyfully expressive, and fiercely committed to reclaiming queer space in the Irish language.
