Teen drag queen Alfie Smith, better known as ESME Doll, turned heads at prom by arriving in a full Barbie-inspired drag ensemble. The bold and beautiful look paid tribute to the vibrant world of drag and echoed the spirit of the hit musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, which itself was inspired by real-life teen drag queen Jamie Campbell.
In an emotional Instagram post, Alfie reflected on his school journey, admitting he initially feared how he would be received as a gay student. However, he was met with unwavering support from both students and staff at Orchard School Bristol.
“Thank you everyone for all the support over my years and I CANNOT WAIT to propel and push ESME DOLL further! Watch this space ESME is gonna take over,” he wrote.

ESME also gave a heartfelt thank you to Jamie Campbell, who helped inspire his drag journey. “I knew I wanted to come to prom in drag and it’s been a moment Ive wanted to do and then seeing @jamiecampbell and watching their documentary when I was younger confirmed to me that I wanted to bring this to my prom! And have my ‘Jamie’ moment !”
Jamie responded with warmth and admiration, commenting: “Wow darling what a vision! So fabulous you go girl!”
Speaking to PinkNews, Alfie admitted to feeling nervous on the journey to prom and questioned whether he had made the right decision. But those doubts melted away the moment he stepped out of the car to cheers and applause from classmates.
When asked what advice he’d give to schools aiming to better support LGBTQ+ students, Alfie emphasised the importance of calling out homophobic and transphobic abuse. He spoke highly of his English teacher, who not only encouraged him to speak about LGBTQ+ topics but even attended one of his drag shows. “She even put the show poster up in her classroom,” he shared in absolute admiration.
Alfie also used the opportunity to advocate strongly for trans rights: “These times are so hard for trans people, so please — if there are trans kids or staff at your school — look out for them, give them the support they need, and be that trusted adult who will fight for them!”
