Dublin’s Gate Theatre presents Live at the Gate: Rosie O’Donnell, a special fundraiser in support of Irish LGBTQ+ charities. Taking place on June 19, tickets for this amazing event are already on sale, and GCN has a pair to give away to one lucky reader.

A trailblazing icon of screen, stage, and stand-up, American comedian Rosie O’Donnell began her career as a teenager, before her big breakthrough on TV series Star Search in 1984. After various TV and film roles, she hosted her own talk show, called The Rosie O’Donnell Show, winning several Daytime Emmy Awards.

Later in her career, she also became the moderator of the talk show The View, as well as hosting several successful radio shows. From 2017 to 2019, she starred on Showtime comedy series SMILF. An outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, she came out as a lesbian in 2002.

Earlier this year, O’Donnell announced that she had left the US and moved to Ireland five days prior to Donald Trump’s inauguration. The queer comedian landed in Dublin on January 15, and is in the process of getting citizenship through her Irish grandparents.

O’Donnell, who has previously spoken out against Donald Trump’s policies, posted a video saying it had been heartbreaking and personally difficult to see what’s happening in the US, and she will only consider moving back “when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights.”

Bringing her razor-sharp wit and unmistakable voice to the Gate Theatre, Rosie O’Donnell is now gearing up for a night of brilliant comedy and community. The event will open with a set from rising Irish comedian Becky Cheatle.

Rosie O’Donnell’s performance will then be followed by OUT LOUD, an event celebrating trans voices. The evening will be hosted by this year’s Dublin Pride Parade Grand Marshall and ShoutOut’s Executive Director, Ruadhán Ó Críodáin. Proceeds from this incredible event will go to support three Irish LGBTQ+ charities: TENI, Belong To, and ShoutOut.

Tickets to see Rosie O’Donnell at the Gate Theatre on June 19 are on sale here, but if you’re feeling lucky and would like a chance to win a pair, simply answer the following question:

When did comedian Rosie O’Donnell come out?

The competition closes on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Winners will be contacted directly and shared on social media.
