The heartwarming reaction of an 82-year-old grandmother has struck a chord across queer social media this festive season.

A tender moment between a trans woman and her grandmother has captured hearts across the internet, offering a timely dose of warmth and affirmation during the holiday season. The viral clip features trans beauty influencer Kevin Ninh, known online as FlawlessKevin, coming out to her 82-year-old grandmother, and being met with nothing but love.

Shared as part of Ninh’s ongoing web series Diaries of a Doll, the video documents an intimate conversation with the family matriarch that has since amassed nearly one million likes. In a digital landscape often marked by hostility towards trans people, the clip stands out as a powerful reminder of how simple acceptance can be.

Ninh, 29, first came out publicly as a trans woman in June 2025 through an emotional TikTok post. Since then, she has chronicled her transition online, blending vulnerability, humour and beauty content while building a loyal following across TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. Diaries of a Doll offers viewers an unfiltered look at her journey, including personal milestones and family conversations.

Episode seven of the series features the now-viral moment. Sitting calmly with her grandmother, Ninh explains that she now goes by she/her pronouns. Her grandmother pauses briefly before asking, gently and sincerely, “You want me to call you she?”When Ninh confirms, her grandmother follows up with another question that has since been widely quoted: “So I have two granddaughters now? Is that okay?”

The exchange is simple, but its impact has been profound. Viewers across the queer community have shared the clip widely, many describing it as deeply emotional and healing. For some, it represented the acceptance they wished they had received from their own families; for others, it offered hope that understanding can come from unexpected places. “This is amazing,” one user wrote in response to the clip. “The world needs this right about now.”

Comment sections quickly filled with messages praising the grandmother’s openness and willingness to learn. Rather than centring confusion or resistance, her response modelled curiosity, respect and unconditional love, qualities that resonated strongly with audiences.

As anti-trans rhetoric continues to dominate headlines in many parts of the world, moments like this feel especially significant. This holiday season, Ninh’s grandmother’s words have become a small but powerful gift.
