Watch: Jake Shears’ Super-queer New Video

Tom of Finland on the mean streets of New Orleans - it's the new single teasing Jake Shears’ forthcoming solo album.

Jake Shears' Big Bushy Moustache

“I gave myself a lot of freedom with it and made it exactly how I wanted to make it.”

With Scissors Sisters still on hiatus (will it ever end?), Jake Shears is set to release a self-titled solo album in September, and to give us a hint of what to expect, he’s released the debut single, ‘Big Bushy Moustache’.

A super-queer celebration of the hirsute upper lip, the video features with a leather-clad Shears (think Freddie Mercury meets Gaga) wandering the streets of New Orleans and recruiting other men to grow out their moustaches.

One of those guys is Queens of the Stoneage frontman, Josh Homme, who later hangs out with Jake blowing kisses at him.

The sound is pure glam-funk, and Shears has his trademark falsetto is all over it like a rash, making for some addictive listening.

Interviewed in Out magazine, Jake says of the forthcoming album: “I gave myself a lot of freedom with it and made it exactly how I wanted to make it, and my dream is to be able to do it again. I would love to make three more records that continues this story. It may sound cheesy, but it’s a new chapter for me.”

It’s out on August 10, and we can’t wait! Watch the video below…
