The first episode of the brand new TV show, The Trixie & Katya Show, starring Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova is out now.
A few months ago, Trixie and Katya announced that UNHhh would be coming to an end and that they would be getting their own TV show on Viceland, The Trixie & Katya Show.
Breakout stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7, Trixie and Katya have amassed millions of views on YouTube, with UNHhh receiving hundreds of thousands of views per episode.
Based on the drag duo’s popular YouTube series UNHhh which began in 2016 and ended only weeks ago, The Trixie & Katya Show will take a similar approach when it comes to structure.
In UNHhh, Trixie and Katya selected a broad topic of conversation, like the ’90s or dating, and talked amongst themselves before ending up on unexpected but hilarious tangents.
“On this show, we take a single topic and explore it inside and out like a handsy funeral director giving the most inappropriate autopsy,” Katya explains in the first episode of the new TV show.
What really set the show apart on YouTube and added an additional layer of humour was the quick-paced green screen editing.
While the new show makes a great attempt at recreating this, some of the original ‘cheap and nasty’ charm is lost in translation with Viceland’s glossier, big-budget production values and a slightly slower pace when it comes to the green screen special effects.
The first episode of The Trixie & Katya Show is titled “Hooking Up” and deals with everything to do with the modern dating world from “the one” to the differences between meeting people online and IRL (in real life).
The show is available to watch in full on YouTube for those in the US (or those who know how to use a VPN) but it will be available on Viceland next week on November 15.
