Is your phone screen looking a little empty lately? Are you getting bored of the usual icons that have populated it since the start? Then you might want to refresh it with some new exciting additions! Here is a list of apps that cater to LGBTQ+ users you should definitely have a look at.
HER
We’re starting with the basics: a queer dating app. However, HER is special as it was developed specifically for LGBTQ+ women and focused on building a sense of community. Even better, in 2018, the app rebranded to become more welcoming of trans and non-binary folks. Now, it’s simply the perfect (online) place to meet new folks and chat with people with similar interests and hobbies.

Safe Date
If we’re talking about dating, then we also need to have a conversation about safety, especially if the plan is to meet up with strangers you’ve only chatted with on the internet. Safe Date is a wonderful resource for anyone who needs a backup plan while going on a date. The app allows you to enter your date plans, choose your ‘Safe Mates’ from your contacts and set a safe time to check in once your date finishes.
GeoSure
As LGBTQ+ people, we know perfectly well that there are places around the world where it is not as safe for us to travel and we need to take precautions if we choose to do so. The GeoSure app offers a “true safety” score which includes specific filters for LGBTQ+ safety. These ratings can provide invaluable information on how safe it is to be open about one’s own sexuality and gender identity in over 30,000 neighbourhoods around the world.
MisterB&B
And since we’re on the topic, finding the best queer-friendly accommodation is also a must when it comes to planning an ideal travel experience. Whether you’re looking for a private room, hostel or hotel, MisterB&B has got you covered. There’s also a connection option within the app to meet other travellers at your destination!

Tser
Created by trans developers, Tser is an app that strives to provide a welcoming and non-judgemental space for trans folks. While it currently has a smaller user base than other more popular apps, you can be sure to find an inclusive community in this one.
Lex
And if you’re looking for apps where to find an inclusive community, Lex is another great option. Specifically designed for queer, trans, gender non-conforming, and non-binary people, Lex adheres to a zero-tolerance policy for every type of discrimination. Whether you’re looking for love or friendship, this is the perfect app to make long-lasting connections with other amazing queer folks.

Surge
Much like Grindr, this app offers a space for gay, bi, trans and queer men to find each other and match. Surge also offers an option to send “power messages” to ensure that people read a few of your words before deciding how to swipe. Other valuable features of the app include the possibility to send temporary photos or edit past messages.
EvaF
This app was created to help trans people who want to train their voices to better align with their gender. EvaF guides users step-by-step through a series of lessons and game-like exercises to practice their voices in a uniquely interactive coaching programme.
GayCities
Another invaluable app for travelling is GayCities, which gives you instant access to recommended queer bars, restaurants, shops and even gyms in over 236 cities worldwide. Each spot has its own description and plenty of reviews and photos. There’s also an option to share where you’re going on the app and find out where the crowd is.
Feeld
If you’re curious about exploring your sexuality and the kink scene, “the app for open-minded people” Feeld is the one for you. Fostering a less judgemental and more supportive community, this is the best app for people who are looking for non-conventional relationship structures or to explore their kinks. Feeld users are usually upfront about what they want, with most of them being part of the queer, kink and ethical non-monogamy (ENM) communities.

Spectrum
Spectrum is an app that helps you find safe spaces to connect with other like-minded people. Through an inclusive, robust selection of criteria, you can rate venues and call out specific considerations, such as toilets, accessibility and staff behaviour. Let other people know where to find safe spaces for their community by sharing your experience on this app.

GCN has been a vital, free-of-charge information service for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community since 1988.
During this global COVID pandemic, we like many other organisations have been impacted greatly in the way we can do business and produce. This means a temporary pause to our print publication and live events and so now more than ever we need your help to continue providing this community resource digitally.
GCN is a registered charity with a not-for-profit business model and we need your support. If you value having an independent LGBTQ+ media in Ireland, you can help from as little as €1.99 per month. Support Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
