There’s no doubt that social media has its pros and cons. However, when used for good, it really can be great! Leading the charge in injecting joy and positivity into the feeds of their followers are these Instagram accounts celebrating queers and their dogs. Through adorable photography, they capture the unconditional love between LGBTQ+ folks and their furry friends, regardless of each other’s backgrounds.

Dogs and Their Dykes
Dogs and Their Dykes was started in 2024 by a south London lesbian couple, comprised of photographer Nessie Appleton Smith and creative director Mair Howells. Together, they have gained almost 20,000 followers, as they redefine “what family and companionship looks like” through their documentary-style series.

Arf & Wag
Gay couple Michel Rohner and Dillon Beckmann are the minds behind Paws Around The World. They travel the globe, taking photos of dogs and their owners and sharing their stories on social media. Through their work, the pair hopes to raise funds to build a permanent canine sanctuary in Cusco, Peru, which would provide safe housing, veterinary care and adoption opportunities to abandoned dogs in the Andes.

Rescued by Love
Spearheaded by trans photographer Jack Jackson, this project, formerly known as Don’t You Want Me, showcases the beauty and resilience of LGBTQ+ people and their rescue dogs. Based in Toronto, Jackson’s work is inspired by his late pup Jet, and every session he shoots is in many ways a continuation of their love story. The award-winning photographer is known for creating dynamic, bold and deeply personal portraits of dogs, and if you want to see more of his stunning photos, you can follow his personal account.

These are just some of the amazing Instagram accounts spotlighting queers and their dogs that you can follow. At a time when the online sphere is increasingly dark, content like this adds a little bit of light to keep hearts warm and spirits high.
