Competition: Win tickets to see queer punk rock band Pansy Division at first ever Irish show

The legendary queercore pioneers will make their long-awaited Dublin debut this July.

Pansy Division

More than three decades after forming in San Francisco, the iconic Pansy Division are finally set to play in Ireland for the very first time. GCN is giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky reader, so keep reading to find out how you can be in for a chance to win!

The influential pop-punk band will headline The Grand Social for their first-ever Dublin gig on Friday, July 10, in a show presented by Foggy Notions in association with U:MACK.

The Dublin date forms part of the group’s first full European tour since the late 1990s, making it a landmark occasion for longtime fans of underground punk and queer alternative music.

Founded in 1991 by vocalist and guitarist Jon Ginoli and bassist Chris Freeman, Pansy Division emerged during an era when openly gay representation in punk rock was still rare. Combining sharp humour, catchy melodies and unapologetically explicit lyrics, the band quickly became one of the defining acts of the queercore movement.

Inspired by a mix of 1960s pop and classic 1970s punk, Pansy Division built a devoted cult following throughout the 1990s with songs that challenged stereotypes both within rock music and wider gay culture. Their music tackled sexuality, identity and outsider experiences with honesty and wit, helping create space for queer voices in alternative music scenes that had often felt unwelcoming.

Still active more than 30 years later, Pansy Division continues to celebrate individuality, inclusion and queer identity through energetic punk rock. Their long-awaited Irish debut promises to be one of the standout alternative gigs of the summer.
