Gleeks gather: the Glee reboot has been confirmed. The official announcement came on Wednesday, October 21, via Disney+ and Hulu through the show’s social media.
Details and dates about the reboot release are scarce, but in September this year, Ryan Murphy confirmed that he had the script ready.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of the 13th season of American Horror Story, Murphy said, “We have a script. Brad, Ian, and I — who wrote all the first two seasons — have written something. I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”

Lea Michele will be back as Rachel Berry, according to Variety. Speaking to E! News a few weeks prior, Michele voiced, “I love Glee. I will always love Glee”. Expressing that she would be happy to partake in a reboot, the actor continued, saying, “I love Ryan Murphy. It just holds such a special place in my heart for me… I will follow Ryan wherever he goes.”
As far as other confirmed returning cast members, Chord Overstreet announced he would reprise his role of Sam Evans with a post on X reading, “Reunited and it feels so good”. Heather Morris also took to social media with a post on Instagram captioned, “Yes ladies and gentle men of women, rumors are true. Brittany S Pierce was in fact lost in the sewers for all these years. But I’m here to inform you that she is alive and well… And back for more.”

Glee also starred Jane Lynch, Heather Kevin McHale, Matthew Morrison, Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Mark Salling, Naya Rivera, Darren Criss, Chris Colfer, and others.
The show was a cultural phenomenon and is credited with revitalising hit songs, including Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’, Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’, and Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ with covers.
However, Glee has also become associated with a number of troubling incidents, including the deaths of three of its cast members. Monteith died from an overdose in 2013 (while the show was still on air), Rivera drowned in a lake after saving her son in 2020, and Mark Salling died by suicide in 2018 after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.
Glee ran for six seasons between 2009 and 2015, so the reboot comes over a decade after its 121-episode run concluded. The show was known for its blunt tackling of topics such as sexuality, race, disability, mental health and more. How the show has aged is subject to debate, as many viewers accept Glee as a product of its time, so the representation of social issues will be a point of intrigue in the upcoming reboot.
