One-person play Tuesdays at Tesco’s will be performed at the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival.

Tuesdays at Tesco’s is an award-winning story of one transgender woman’s courageous fight to be her true self and gain acceptance and love from her ageing father.

Tuesdays at Tesco’s

Tuesday is the day Pauline (played by Brian Higgins) takes care of her ageing father. Every Tuesday she returns to streets of her youth to do the housework for him. They then both go to Tesco where stares and stolen glances follow them.

Before she became Pauline, her name was Paul and to her father she remains Paul despite all appearances to the contrary.

Written by Emmanuel Darley and translated by Matthew Hurt and Sarah Vermande, Le Mardi à Monoprix  (the original French title) was a critical and commercial hit when it premiered in Paris in 2009 and went on to be nominated for a Molière, France’s national theatre awards.

This production is directed by Niamh Denyer.
