During a baseball game, some of the biggest cheers erupted for a gay couple’s kiss on the kiss cam.
During the Saturday game between Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks, a couple was asked by the kiss cam controllers to partake in a kiss for the big screen.
Unlike other instances in which straight guys have been asked to jokingly kiss, this couple have been together for 20 years and their kiss is adorable.
“All we did was kiss,” Steven Simone-Friedland told The Advocate on Tuesday. “What made everyone’s day was the crowd reaction.”
The two Dodgers’ fans kissed, among heterosexual couples’ kisses, and received the biggest cheer of the night.
“I turned to my husband, I turned to Rick, and I said ‘you know, this could go badly. This could not go well,'” Simone-Friedland said. “But then we did it because we thought it would be just so fun to do, and then we heard the crowd — and that was really unexpected and beautiful, and affirming.”
Steven and his husband Rick have been together for 20 years and married in 2013.
“All we did was kiss,” says Simone-Friedland. “What made everyone’s day was the crowd reaction. … I don’t think anybody was expecting that reaction. … I kiss my husband every single day. That’s not the big deal. The big deal is what happened immediately after. That’s just the most amazing thing.”
