If you missed it at GAZE Film Festival, catch the acclaimed short doc ‘Our Gemma’ as a part of the IFI DocFest: Reality Bites & Documentary Shorts Programme.
Filmmakers Cara Holmes and Paula Geraghty follow Irish comedian Gemma Hutton in a touching, funny short about identity and how one person responds to bigotry and political sectarianism in her life.
Gemma leaves the small town of Bangor to come out in Belfast. Bigotry, however, is never far away. Leaving has brought her closer to her Nan, the no nonsense Protestant Granny, who loves her and accepts her for who she is. This cleverly crafted short will leave you wanting more.
Our Gemma is being screened along with six other Irish short documentaries in an 80 minute screening on Saturday, September 26. All shorts in this programme are in competition for the Audience Award for Best Short Documentary.
