Morrissey – singer/songwriter and controversial mouthpiece – has posted his first message on Twitter, five years after originally joining.

“Hello. Testing, 1, 2, 3. Planet Earth, are you there? One can only hope…” read the suitably odd debut tweet.

The 54-year-old, who releases his tenth studio album, World Peace is None of Your Business, on July 14, in a new worldwide record deal with Universal Music’s US-based Harvest Records, is likely to use the platform to promote subjects he feels strongly about such as vegetarianism and his hatred of the Royal Family, though perhaps…just maybe he was following the advice of his new team.
