Trans ally and queer icon Charli XCX didn’t have to do it, but she did it – she is giving us a modern version of Spice World. Charli XCX has teamed up with A24 to bless the world with a satirical and meditative feature film titled The Moment, and the trailer is out now.
The film, based on Charli’s original idea and her own journey to super-stardom, features a cast absolutely dripping with icons, with the 365 party girl in the lead role, of course. She plays a fictionalised version of herself, and the wider cast includes Kylie Jenner, Rachel Sennott, Kate Berlant, Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, to name a few.
The trailer flaunts the lineup and teases some phenomenal comedic timing and meta jokes. It highlights a clip from the film where Charli’s character asks, “Don’t you think, the whole like, keep having a brat summer thing is a bit cringe?”
Charli XCX is no stranger to opening up about vulnerability, and this mockumentary is set to show the dark side of the music industry and an intimate peek behind the lime green curtain that took over last year.
The Moment is directed by Aidan Zamiri, who previously directed several of Charli XCX’s music videos, including 360 and Guess with Billie Eilish. This is to be Zamiri’s debut feature release. The film boasts an original score by A.G. Cook, which remixes some of Charli’s hits into a suspenseful nightmare.
The BRAT star started her music career by releasing some tracks on MySpace in 2008, which landed her her first gigs at underground raves. Ever since, she has pioneered and defied genre. Her sixth studio album, BRAT, absolutely dominated 2024, to the point where the artist redefined the word ‘brat’ and Collins Dictionary took note.
Charli is most definitely having a moment and producing a monumental amount of work currently, working on not just this film, but the soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights. The hyperpop musician is also due to appear in at least six other upcoming films, including Faces of Death, I Want Your Sex, The Gallerist, 100 Nights Of Hero, Sacrifice, and Erupcja.
Have a look at the tantalising trailer for Charli XCX and A24’s The Moment here. The film is set to come out in 2026, hitting theatres on January 30.
