CMAT has been named on Forbes magazine’s prestigious 30 Under 30 list for Entertainment across Europe. The 29-year-old has been recognised as one of the “most talented and influential” individuals alongside other Irish music stars like Fontaines DC’s Grian Chatten and hip hop artist Jordan Adetunji.
While highlighting that she is a Trinity College dropout (and aligning her with the United Kingdom), the outlet also rightfully acknowledged many of her successes to date. It noted that her sophomore record, Crazymad, For Me, topped Irish charts and earned Mercury Prize and Ivor Novello nominations. Her debut album, If My Wife New I’d Be Dead, also won the RTÉ Choice Music Prize, “showcasing her knack for wrapping humor in sunlit melodies,” Forbes wrote.
And if readers needed any further proof of CMAT’s talent, the magazine directed them to her “riotous” 2024 Jools’ Annual Hootenanny performance, “where she turned breakup anthem ‘Have Fun!’ into a big band celebration”.
CMAT responded to her inclusion on the 30 Under 30 list, thanking Forbes but adding, “you didn’t have to be QUITE so thorough. you sound like my ma,” in reference to the mention of her dropping out of Trinity.
The Entertainment category, spotlighting the next generation of talent across Europe, was judged by Sony Music’s Christoph Behm, actor Lucien Laviscount, Irish writer Lisa McGee and non-binary artist Sam Smith. Together, they created the star-studded list, which includes international names like Babygirl’s Harris Dickinson, Yellowjackets’ Ella Purnell, ‘Messy’ singer Lola Young, Irish director Ronan Corrigan and teenage actor Frankie Corio.
There are also European categories for Art & Culture, Science & Healthcare, Retail & Ecommerce, Technology, Sports & Games, Media & Marketing, Manufacturing & Industry, Finance and Social Impact. Some well known figures featured on these lists include Irish gymnast Rhys McClenaghan, LGBTQ+ boxer Cindy Ngamba, Chelsea star Cole Palmer and queer multidisciplinary artist Rene Matić.
