The Greatest Showman’s All-Star Cast
Directed by Michael Gracey, it features an all-star cast including Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson.
The stars walked the red carpet last week at the world premiere in New York which was aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2. Barnum, who lived in the 1800s, frequented Cunard cruise ships.
The Greatest Showman has been nominated for three Golden Globes: Best Motion Picture, Best Performance by an Actor (Hugh Jackman) and Best Original Song in a Motion Picture.
Having hung up his Wolverine costume for the last time, Hugh Jackman returns to his musical roots. The Tony award winner leads the cast in what is set to be a wonderful revival of his musical prowess.
The film’s composer, Benj Pasek, who is a member of the LGBT community has been nominated for Best Original Song for his work on “This Is Me”. Pasek wrote the track alongside lyricist and writing partner Justin Paul, whom he previously worked with on Dear Evan Hansen and La La Land.
Inspired by P.T. Barnum
Phineas Taylor Barnum was an American politician, showman and businessman remembered for founding the Barnum & Bailey Circus.
He is cited as being the “Shakespeare of advertising”, he had the ability to draw patrons in by giving them a glimpse of something they had never seen before.
He showcased the subversive and that is reflected in this movie. It is packed full of eccentric characters and the make-up, costume and set design compliments both the characters and the time period.
The Greatest Showman hits Irish cinemas in December 26th, in the meantime, here is the trailer:
