The International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival is returning for its 21st edition in 2024. This year, 23 productions from Ireland and around the world will take you on a journey through various genres, celebrating creativity, storytelling and diversity. The event will run from May 6 to 19 in five different locations around the Irish capital.

Each year, the event celebrates the artistry and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community, inviting queer artists to share their stories and experiences. As productions from all around the world were submitted, the event will highlight cultural exchanges and international collaborations. The plays will offer a look inside various queer stories shaping the community all around.

The program for these two fantastic weeks in Dublin officially released at a special event on the evening of Thursday, April 4. Artists will take the stage in five different locations, namely Clink I Làr, Teachers Main Hall Theatre @ 36, Outhouse, DV8, and the Ireland Institute. The program features a tapestry of productions ranging from drama to comedy and cabaret to historical plays. Showings are scheduled each day either at 7:30pm or 9pm, except on Sundays when they will take place at 3pm. The full program is available to view here.

Two special events are planned on May 19 to close the festival. The first is an open forum called Planning the Future, which will invite people to share their views on the festival’s future. After that, the Gala Awards Night will take place at DV8 to celebrate participants of this year’s edition.

Founder and Artistic Director of the Dublin Gay Theatre Festival, Brian Merriman, shared his excitement for the 2024 event: “From our inaugural event in 2004 to today, we’ve nurtured over 500 plays and hosted 4,000 performances, bringing the rich tapestry of LGBTQ+ stories to Dublin’s stage. This landmark year celebrates diversity, with a line-up that spans genres and geographies. This festival, born from passion and sustained by a community’s dedication, is at a pivotal moment. It’s time for new leadership to carry forward our legacy.”
