To celebrate Gay Health Network (GHN)’s 30th anniversary, the organisation is teaming up with Mother to throw a very special party on Saturday, May 24. Entitled just like honey, the night will feature queer club legends behind the decks, including Tonie Walsh, Aoife Nic Canna, Bull Horris, Gerry Moore, Rocky T. Delgado and Glamo.

Tonie Walsh is the founder of the Irish Queer Archive and a co-founder of GCN, and has been a stalwart of Ireland’s LGBTQ+ civil rights movement since as early as 1979. He is one of the country’s legendary DJs, starting out at gay bar Flikkers, and before long playing at iconic club nights like Sides, Horny Organ Tribe (H.O.T.), Elevator, GAG, Powderbubble, H.A.M., Telefunkin and more. Although he retired from full-time DJing to concentrate on research and writing, Tonie continues to play for special gigs like just like honey.

Named the first lady of Irish house music by Hot Press, Aoife Nic Canna has been a leading force in the Irish dance music scene since its initial emergence in the early 1990s. Included in The Irish Times list for Top 10 Irish DJs and Broadcasters, Aoife has had a number of residencies in Dublin over the years, including at U2’s The Kitchen, the Rock Garden, No 4 Dame Lane and a legendary eight-year stint at Ri-Ra.

Bull Horris is a Dublin-based DJ and visual artist who has been a consistent presence in the local and international scene over the past few years. A co-founder of Tender and resident for Strawberries, their love of the dancefloor and the cathartic moments it can bring translates into the music heard throughout each set. A charging rhythm laced with sometimes political, oftentimes camp vocals, chord progressions that reminisce on that distinctly Euro sound, and an orientation towards fun are the driving forces behind the sounds that Bull Horris loves to hear and play out.

Gerry Moore is a legend of the Irish scene, seen and heard at The Hirschfeld Centre, Hooray Henry’s, SIDES DC, Shaft, The Kitchen, Columbia Mills, Furnace, The Chocolate Bar, Reynards, Loafers in Cork, Róisín Dubh in Galway, Kremlin Belfast and many, many more. He can often be found spinning hits from the ‘80s, ‘90s, ‘00s and beyond.

Rocky T. Delgado will be no stranger to Mother regulars. He regularly takes the decks in Lost Lane, showcasing a broad array of musical tastes and influences. Similarly, Glamo is also often found spinning banger after banger in the Mother library, all while sporting iconic headpieces that are impossible to miss.

Tickets are on sale now to catch this incredible lineup at just like honey on May 24, get yours before it’s too late!

Gay Health Network’s party with Mother coincides with the Out of The Strong, Came Forth Sweetness – GHN30 exhibition, which will similarly mark the organisation’s milestone anniversary. Curated by artist Brian Teeling, it will run from Monday, May 12, to Sunday, May 25, in the Naughton Institute in Trinity College Dublin.

With an extensive list of more than 25 contributors, the exhibition will comprise historical and contemporary works capturing the LGBTQ+ experience and addressing HIV-related stigma from the past to the present. It will feature works from some of the most exciting emerging talent like Bill Harris, Day Magee, and Jack Scollard as well as established practitioners like Caroline Campbell, Austin Hearne and Niall Sweeney, and individuals like the late Christopher Robson, a prolific photographer of queer life throughout the ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s.

Together, the pieces reflect on the grief, joy, resilience, urgency and expanse of the LGBTQ+ experience in Ireland across time and space. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of talks in the Paccar Theatre, with further information available at gayhealthnetwork.ie.
