Hundreds of protests, marches and rallies against Trump and Musk are set to take place in all 50 US states as well as in other parts of the world on April 5. This is expected to be the largest single-day mobilisation since Trump took office in January.

After being sworn in as President on January 20 this year, Donald Trump signed hundreds of executive orders, several of which targeted LGBTQ+ rights, especially those of trans and non-binary people. Moreover, Trump suspended billions of dollars in projects supported by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the primary organisation distributing humanitarian aid worldwide.

Spearheaded by Elon Musk, who was employed by the Trump administration as a “special government employee”, the administration made massive budget cuts and layoffs across federal agencies under the cost-cutting measures of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

With millions of people losing their jobs and access to essential medicines, the move has sparked outrage both in the US and internationally. Grassroot movement Indivisible has organised a mass mobilisation under the “Hands Off!” banner, scheduled to take place on April 5.

Protests against Trump and Musk will bring people to the streets in all 50 US states, as well as in Portugal, the UK, Germany, The Netherlands and France, as listed on the official website. The marches and rallies won’t only take place in metro areas and several states already have hundreds of events scheduled.

In California, over 100 protests are set to take place, while the upper Midwest (including Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin) have more than 200 events scheduled. Indivisible has partnered up with several groups nationwide to organise the protests, including the Women’s March, United Federation of Teachers, Public Citizen, Human Rights Campaign, MoveOn, Planned Parenthood, and more.

“This is a nationwide mobilization to stop the most brazen power grab in modern history. They’re taking everything they can get their hands on,” the official Hands Off! website states. “Our healthcare, our data, our jobs, our services… we’re taking to the streets nationwide to fight back with a clear message: Hands off!”

“This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country.”

A similar demonstration is also set to take place in Dublin on May 8. Organised by ROSA Socialist Feminist movement, the “March Against The Manosphere” protest will condemn Trump, Musk and McGregor and their actions on eroding the rights of women, queer folks, migrants, Palestinians, and disabled people.
