It’s not even Christmas yet, but the magic has clearly already begun. Our pals at Mother have just announced their special headliner for the Friday show of this year’s Pride Block Party, and it’s none other than iconic queer band Scissor Sisters!
For the first time in over a decade, Scissor Sisters reunited for a special tour this year, taking their music around Ireland and the UK. Jake Shears, Babydaddy and Del Marquis took the stage together, while the fourth Scissor Sisters member, Ana Matronic, was not able to join the reunion, citing other projects she was focusing on.
Blending diverse styles in their music, including pop rock, glam rock, and electroclash, the legendary queer pop superstars rose to fame with singles such as ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’, ‘Take Your Mama’ and ‘Let’s Have a Kiki’, which soon became staples in queer discos.
Talking about the band’s cultural relevance in the LGBTQ+ community, Babydaddy recently said: “We do acknowledge that we did something pretty unique back then just by putting ourselves out there as queer people. We put queer culture in the mainstream at a time when there wasn’t much of it there.”
Scissor Sisters will now bring their iconic energy to the Mother Pride Block Party stage for a milestone performance guaranteed to set the tone for an unforgettable weekend. And they will be in great company!
Joining Scissor Sisters will be an array of fellow queer superstars, including Peaches, who will entertain the crowds with a fantastic DJ set. Other special guests are the Queen of Ireland Panti Bliss, Tara Kumar, the fabulous Mother DJs, and more, with the full supporting lineup to be announced soon.
Returning to the legendary location at the National Museum of Ireland in Collins Barracks, this year’s Pride Block Party is set to take place on June 26 and 27. The Friday show is just the beginning of what promises to be a legendary weekend, expanding the Mother Pride Block Party into a multi-day experience of music, art, community, and queer joy in the heart of Dublin City.
Expect a night of euphoric live music, dazzling performance, and queer celebration as Mother opens Pride Weekend with the first big party of the summer.
Tickets for The Mother Pride Opening Party will be available from Friday, December 12, via Eventbrite.
