Pride season is in full effect right now and GCN has all the need-to-know-info regarding the celebrations happening in Mullingar for 2022.
The festivities begin on July 12 with a two-week exhibition open to the public. The Legacy Exhibition will showcase the history of LGBTQ+ people from the local area, and can be found at the Westmeath County Council Buildings Atrium.
On July 14, there will be an amazing theatre performance, Queer Stories, at the Greville Arms Hotel. Local writers and artists will share a night of “dramatic readings, poetry and monologues all of which are centered around queer themes.”
The highlight of the celebration will be WERK! Fest, a full-day festival on Saturday, July 16 at Belvedere House and Gardens.
“Celebrating Mullingar’s 1st ever official pride day, WERK! Fest is a concert and show all in one, with some of Ireland’s most notable LGBTQ+ performers and special guests from the world of Drag entertainment, POP music and more. The event is a true celebration of Queer culture.”
If you are interested in more details about any of the events happening at Mullingar Pride 2022, check out their podcast, Pride Talk Mullingar. Over the next few weeks, organisers will share anything and everything LGBTQ+ related leading up to the festival. It was first released on May 11, and currently has five incredible episodes.

Chairman of Mullingar Pride, Daniel Boyne, has worked in collaboration with a small team to ensure there the festival is welcoming and inviting for all.
“We are trying to have something for everyone, I want families involved, culture, and to remember the LGBT people before us, and of course the fun part too, the concert. Am I trying too much at the one time? Maybe, but sure, go big or go home,” he said.
With the extravagant celebrations nearing, Mullingar Pride is reaching out to the community for help to ensure all festival events can continue. A GoFundMe page has been created by the organisers, and interested parties are invited to donate to support the cause. Mullingar Pride’s ultimate goal is to use profits generated from festivals and events to set up an LGBTQ+ support group.
If you’re interested in attending any of the fantastic events, tickets for both WERK! Fest and Queer Stories are available for purchase on Eventbrite.

GCN has been a vital, free-of-charge information service for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community since 1988.
During this global COVID pandemic, we like many other organisations have been impacted greatly in the way we can do business and produce. This means a temporary pause to our print publication and live events and so now more than ever we need your help to continue providing this community resource digitally.
GCN is a registered charity with a not-for-profit business model and we need your support. If you value having an independent LGBTQ+ media in Ireland, you can help from as little as €1.99 per month. Support Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
