In a most horrifying case of hate crime, a 29 year-old woman was slashed in the face after she confronted a male who was shouting anti-gay slurs on the streets of the Lower West Side of Manhattan, New York City.
According to the NYPD, the woman was hanging out with a group of friends at the corner of Essex and Delancey streets at approximately 10.40pm on Friday when the 32 year-old male, identified as Takeam Brison, approached them and began shouting homophobic slurs at the group, telling them to “go back to F***Ville” and chanting “You lesbians, you homos”.
When the woman questioned why he would say such a thing, Brison slashed the left side of her face causing serious injury, before fleeing the scene and calling 911, telling the dispatcher that a group of homosexuals were following him, reports DNA.
Police arrested Brison and discovered he was armed with a knife, and promptly charged him with two counts of felony assault, including felony assault as a hate crime.
A legal representative for Brison has not responded to a request for comment.
