While we can’t quite believe that it’s already October, it’s time to start filling our calendars with all of the best queer events happening across Ireland. Encompassing theatre, art, horror films and more, there’s sure to be something for everyone on this list!

TuesGays Horror Movie Double Bill
Kicking off Halloween month appropriately, Hazy Rainbow, a new LGBTQ+ social group, is hosting a fabulous film night for horror buffs. Screening both the moody Neil Jordan classic Interview With The Vampire and the incredibly stylish The Hunger, this event takes place outdoors at the Valentine’s Bar in Longford. Admission is €5 and everyone aged over 18 is welcome to join!

 

Christopher Hall – Girl For All Seasons
Social media sensation Christopher Hall is coming to Dublin to tell his story of being “a boy who’s a bit girly really”. From unhealthy obsessions with pop princesses to falling in line behind the school classroom queen bees and gaining life lessons from the cast of Bad Girls, this show explains it all. A limited number of tickets remain on sale for the Belfast and Dublin shows on October 1 and 2, respectively. Get yours here!

Luke van Gelderen – Romeo Save Me
Celebrating its opening night on Thursday, October 3, Romeo Save Me is an installation confronting the challenges of self-perception in an era dominated by incessant streams of digital content. The exhibition runs in Pallas Project until October 19, and is accompanied by a commissioned text and response by artist and writer Sadbh O’Brein. See more information here.

 

Journey Into Manfinity & Other Exotic Places
Taking over The Bernard Shaw on Friday, October 4, the Dublin Drag King Collective presents Journey Into Manfinity & Other Exotic Places. Featuring resident performers Gio LeMinge, Enda Danite and George Dandy, the night will be MC’d by Jaunti Bi Nature and will feature appearances from some very special guests. This event is sold out, follow the collective’s Instagram to be kept up to date with more information.

 

National March for Palestine
On Saturday, October 5, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign will be marking one year since Israel escalated its military offensive in Gaza. Attendees will meet at the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin at 1pm, before marching to the Dáil. There is also a disability access point on the corner of D’Olier Street. Hiking with Pride
Also on Saturday, October 5, Queer Asian Pride Ireland and Sporting Pride are teaming up to host their first beginner-friendly hillwalking experience for LGBTQ+ people of colour, immigrants and allies. It will be a small group of 14 people, led by Qualified Mountain Leaders through the scenic Wicklow Mountains. Booking is available now, here.

 

Quirk Market

GALAS Awards
Of course, this list of queer events in October would not be complete without the 2024 GALAS Awards. Taking place in the Dublin Royal Convention Centre at the Radisson Blue Hotel, this very special event serves to celebrate Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community. With awards up for grabs across 13 categories, don’t miss out on one of the queerest nights of the year, all raising funds for the National LGBT Federation and GCN. A very limited number of tickets to the ceremony on Saturday, October 5, are still on sale here.

Fast-Track Cities Consultation
The HIV Fast-Track Cities Cork initiative is hosting an action planning meeting on October 11, as part of its goal of ending HIV as a public threat by 2030. Taking place in Cork City Hall, the event aims to mobilise local stakeholders and develop concrete strategies to accelerate the response to the HIV in Cork over the next five years.

Tearmann Aiteach / Queer Sanctuary
Having enjoyed a spectacular run at the Dublin Fringe Festival, Tearmann Aiteach / Queer Sanctuary travels south for its next round of shows on October 11 and 12. The show is programmed as part of Dance Cork Firkin Crane’s Summer/Autumn 2024 season, and tickets are available here.

 

Bí Linn: An Aisteach Exhibition
Opening on Friday, October 11 at 7pm, this exhibition presents Aisteach Queer Housing Co-Op’s ongoing community work, as well as individual artistic and architectural pursuits and research, and international case studies which present alternative housing arrangements and economic development models not widely represented in Ireland. Bí Linn takes place as part of Open House Dublin 2024, and is hosted at the Irish Architecture Foundation’s Charlemont Walk space. More information is available here.

Gauche Market
For those searching for more Halloween-themed events, the Gauche Market has you covered! Taking place in Wigwam on October 13, this colourful celebration of spooky season will feature an amazing selection of small businesses selling accessories, homewares, decorations, crafts and much more. Rainbow Strokes

LGBTI+ Inclusion in Sport
Hosted by Sport Ireland and Sporting Pride, this event is part of the successful Let’s Get Visible campaign. Taking place in the Sport Ireland campus on October 19, there will be a panel discussion as well as snapshot presentations on LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport followed by a closing keynote speech. Dress You Up
Running from October 22 to 25, Dress You Up is a new play about a young queer person becoming a drag queen in Waterford in the ’90s. It opens as part of the Imagine Festival in Waterford, with tickets available here.

Beards
Premiering in The New Theatre on October 29, Beards is a rollicking new musical comedy from LemonSoap Productions. This farcical tale of hope and resilience takes us all the way back to the Middle Ages, following siblings Daryl and Erika who marry each other’s lovers to avoid being burnt at the stake for being gay. When one of the lesbians falls pregnant via immaculate conception, both couples must battle their own conflicting feelings as they soon find out that they are about to co-parent the second coming of Christ. Performances run until November 2, get your tickets here!
