It’s Pride month, and summer is here! (I think.) Anyway, it is definitely time for an upbeat playlist to get us in a good mood. Of course, this list is full of queer favourites. Hopefully, they’ll get your toes tapping or, better yet, make you run straight to the dance floor. Without further ado, let’s jump into my Pride playlist for 2025.
‘Crying at the Discoteque’ – ALCAZAR (2000)
This song was a hit in Ireland about 25 years ago (gulp!). ‘Crying at the Discoteque’ will likely re-lodge in your brain after one listen, or become a brand new earworm for the younger folks who may not have heard it before.
‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancin” – Scissor Sisters (2006)
A band that has a number of catchy tunes, I could probably do 10 songs just from them! However, this one won out. Maybe it’s because it has gay icon Elton John on piano? Ignore the title, it will make you feel like dancing.
‘Just Dance’ – Lady Gaga and Colby O’Donis (2008)
I looked back to Gaga’s first album to find a catchy number that you should ‘just dance’ to.
‘Bulletproof’ – La Roux (2009)
Another hit in Ireland, it’s about telling someone who messed with you that they won’t be doing it again. I’ll dance to that!
‘Make Me Feel’ – Janelle Monáe (2018)
Listening to the single ‘Make Me Feel’ instantly gives you a Prince vibe, and he reportedly wrote the synth groove used in the song. After listeners compared the sound to Prince, Monáe confirmed, “Prince was actually working on the album with me before he passed on to another frequency, and helped me come up with some sounds”.
‘All For You’ – Years & Years/Olly Alexander (2018)
Years & Years have plenty of catchy tunes to choose from, but I picked the one that Olly Alexander said will help you “get deep on the dance floor (and) release your inner demons”.
‘Chalk Tablet Towers’ – Gorillaz and St. Vincent (2020)
I love St. Vincent’s work, but she isn’t known for songs that you dance to. Luckily, she teamed up with a group that is. I love Gorillaz too, so I’m a big fan of this one.
‘RUSH’ – Troye Sivan (2023)
I know, I know. You’re so shocked that I have a Troye Sivan song on my playlist. He’s another artist who has a few songs to dance to, but this one was the first to spring to mind. Check the video for instructions.
‘HOT TO GO!’ – Chappell Roan (2023)
I think I would have been charged with some sort of criminal offence if I left Chappell Roan off this list. This is the song that screams dance to me.
‘Midnight Ride’ – Orville Peck, Kylie Minogue and Diplo (2024)
Kylie has created a number of dance floor favourites and she co-wrote this hit with queer country star Orville Peck. Peck dubbed this a “disco-country song”, and it blends the two artists’ styles.
So there’s my list! Feel free to let us know who is in your playlist this Pride season.
