The much-loved gay romcom Red, White, & Royal Blue is finally greenlit to return for an enchanting sequel. The new addition will be titled Red, White & Royal Wedding, hinting at an irresistible follow-up to the love story between Alex and Henry that developed in the first film.

The sequel has been in the works for a while, having initially been announced in May 2024, but its title has been kept under wraps until now.

The first film, adapted from Casey McQuiston’s 2019 novel, was met with roaring success, charting the enemies-to-lovers romance of the fictional Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz, First Son of the United States. Having been nominated for an Emmy and scooping the ‘Queer Fan Favourite’ prize at the GLAAD awards in 2024, there’s no doubt the sequel will also deliver some swoonworthy performances!

Nicholas Galitzine will reprise his role as Prince Henry, and Taylor Zakhar Perez will return once more as Alex Claremont-Diaz.

Casey McQuiston will be involved in the writing of this brand-new follow-up tale, alongside Gemma Burgess, and the director of the first film, Matthew Lopez. While there has been no confirmation on the film’s storyline, the title announcement certainly offers us something to look forward to!

Jamie Babbit will direct the sequel, an announcement that left fans buzzing for the film’s eventual release. Babbit is most known for directing the queer classic But I’m a Cheerleader, which promises big things for the Red, White, & Royal Blue sequel.

Julie Rapaport of Amazon MGM Studios commented that “We couldn’t be more excited to continue [this] journey with Jamie Babbit at the helm– her sharp comedic sensibility and heartfelt storytelling make her the perfect director to build on the magic of the first film”.

While there is still no timeline for release, this exciting new development means Red, White, & Royal Wedding is closer than we think!
