The highly-anticipated Red, White and Royal Blue film is coming to Amazon Prime in August 2023, and we can’t wait to see this romance on screen. Based on the sensational 2019 debut novel by Casey McQuiston, this dreamy film adaptation is sure to become a queer favourite.

No trailer has been released yet, but fans are particularly excited that the film has earned an R-rating suggesting some steamy sex scenes between the two leads. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) noted that the rating is based on “language, some sexual content, and partial nudity”.

The cast includes Nicholas Galitzine as the British prince, Henry, Taylor Zakhar Perez from The Kissing Booth as Alex Claremont-Diaz and Uma Thurman as the first female President of the United States, with the captivating plot follows the unexpected romance between the two male leads.

Son of the US president, Alex is handsome and charismatic, but his public image comes into question when the tabloids publish a photo where he appears to be fighting with his rival, the aforementioned prince. The families decide to stage a truce between the two men to save relations between the UK and the US.

They reluctantly agree to pretend to be friends, but it doesn’t take long for this staged friendship to turn into a secret romance. The couple tries to keep their relationship a secret, but keeping a low profile proves difficult with the press snapping during Alex’s mother’s re-election campaign.

Fans of the book have been eagerly awaiting the adaptation for years. Red, White and Royal Blue won the Best Romance award in the 2019 Goodreads Choice Awards, and it quickly went viral on queer BookTok.

Some have described the story as escapism since it represents an alternative reality where a woman wins the 2016 US presidential election and governs as an intelligent, progressive Democrat where the biggest scandal includes her son’s relationship with the British Prince.

Director Matthew López said, “I am overjoyed that Uma will be joining us to play President Claremont. Her intelligence, warmth, and humour are a perfect match for Casey’s iconic character. I cannot wait to be on our Oval Office set with her.”

Filming for the LGBTQ+ love story took place in London during the summer of 2022, and the cast was careful not to share any costume or set details, so we can’t wait to see what everyone looks like in character.

The story will be a perfect fit for anyone obsessed with queer romances, secret love affairs, and royal scandals. Red, White & Royal Blue will be available on Amazon Prime Video from August 11, 2023.
