This sweet story of how, and why, straight teen Jacob Lescenski asked his gay best friend Anthony Martinez to prom and we are flooding in our own happy tears.

That American rite of passage known as prom has descended upon the students of the US and it’s a stressful time for all involved. Between tuxedos and dresses, curfews and after parties, the prom date is still the most important and nerve-wracking part of the whole debacle.

This was something that Anthony Martinez knew all too well. Martinez took to Twitter to rant about not having a date for prom, specifically a male date.

He explained that he doesn’t want to date whatever boy would go to prom with him, he just wants a date. And who would blame him? Everyone wants a date to prom.

Luckily for Anthony, his best friend Jacob Lescenski saw these tweets and decided to do something about it.

“I decided on going to prom alone because my original date idea didn’t work out so well,” Jacob told NewNowNext, “Then one night I saw Anthony, who is my best friend, tweeting about wanting a date.”

The following evening after his initial tweets were published, Anthony tweeted this:

“So, I came up with the poster idea, asked my friend Mia to make it and asked him that next day,” he recounts. “No one knew about it except for me, my friend Jamie, and Mia, who made the poster. It was a giant surprise to everyone, especially Anthony!” Anthony posted these adorable pictures to his tumblr:
