Dublin woman, Victoria Curtis, spoke to Ryan Tubridy about a horrific homophobic attack that took place over the weekend – in which a man punch her four times in the face.

Victoria Curtis and her friends were verbally abused at around 2am on Sunday morning on Dublin’s Camden Street, when a man shouted at the group of women “to take off your trousers, pull down your knickers and show me your arse’s”.

When Curtis challenged the man on his comments, the altercation turned physical and she was punched four times in the face. The police were called immediately, but the attacker quickly disappeared from the scene. Curtis received medical treatment for her injuries, and was not severely harmed.

After posting a photo of her injury, along with a description of the incident, the post quickly went viral. Curtis recounted the story to Ryan Tubridy on RTÉ Radio One about the incident.

She told Tubridy that after she and her friends called the man out on his misogynistic comments, he retaliated by calling them “feminist feckers” and “faggots”, adding, “I voted Yes for marriage equality but I didn’t vote for that.”

She shared her story because she was “tired of people saying this kind of stuff doesn’t happen.”

“I’ve experienced verbal abuse on the streets before and you can kinda brush it off,” she said. “But I’ve never experiences an attack like that. It ended up so violently.

“This is constantly happening women, and it’s not just me and it’s not just my friends. Street harassment against females is rife and that’s why we turned around and called him out on it,” she said.
