While on the campaign trail for his re-election, former President Donald Trump has outlined what his next four-year term would look like, posing concerns for the LGBTQ+ community.
The discourse surrounding the upcoming election seems to be at an all-time high as current President Joe Biden and Trump face off in a repeat of the 2021 election. This election is thought to be crucial, as the results could mean heightened levels of discrimination against millions of people.
Since the beginning of his re-election campaign, Trump has pushed that he will be rolling back the rights of the LGBTQ+ community in the United States. He has stated multiple times that he will get rid of healthcare protections for trans people and ban gender-affirming care for minors, while limiting workplace discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people, and rescinding many parts of Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI).
The highest-risk minority in the US are Black trans youth. Trump recently stated at a rally, “On day one, I will sign a new executive order to cut federal funding for any school pushing Critical Race Theory (CRT), transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content onto our children.”
By taking away CRT and transgender education in school, there will be limited support for these students, leaving them vulnerable.

A major player in the blueprint of Trump’s re-election campaign is Project 2025, a conservative presidential transition project whose goal is to “take back” the US government. This project is headed by the Heritage Foundation, an anti-left organisation that the Trump administration depended on in the 2021 election.
It aims to restrict the rights of the LGBTQ+ community by outlining Trump’s next four years, demanding that if the Republican is re-elected, he is to reinstate the Transgender Military Ban and encourage Congress to define people by their assigned sex at birth instead of by gender.

If elected, and with the dedicated support of his loyalists who hold power in the US government, Trump will potentially have the support to implement almost everything he has described at his rallies. This will be a devastating blow to the LGBTQ+ community in the US, as well as the rest of the world.
