The upcoming role-playing game 1348: Ex Voto has ignited waves of excitement after strongly hinting that its central character is a lesbian, sending sapphic fans into full celebration mode.
Developed by indie studio Sedleo, 1348: Ex Voto is an action-adventure RPG set in 14th-century medieval Italy. Players step into the role of Aeta, portrayed by Alby Baldwin, a young knight navigating a war-torn peninsula in search of Bianca, voiced by Jennifer English, who is abducted when bandits raid their village.
While the game has been steadily building anticipation since its reveal in August 2025, hype surged dramatically following the release of its story trailer on Thursday, January 22. The trailer appears to confirm what many fans were hoping: that Aeta and Bianca’s bond is romantic.
In one tender scene, the pair are shown sharing a quiet moment together in a sunlit field, seemingly before tragedy strikes. Later, Aeta is seen bloodied but alive after a brutal encounter with raiders, clutching Bianca’s medallion. The emotional framing leaves little room for ambiguity, reading as a moment of pure, unapologetic sapphic yearning.
Fans were quick to express their joy online, particularly celebrating the chance to play as a medieval masc knight sporting a neatly shaven bowl cut. Further fuelling speculation about the potential lesbian pairing in the game, 1348: Ex Voto’s Steam page describes Bianca as Aeta’s “closest one,” a phrase many players interpret as deliberately intimate.
Set to release on March 12, the game already boasts more than 100,000 wishlists on Steam, a significant figure for an indie title. With several months still to go before launch, that number is expected to rise as word continues to spread.
1348: Ex Voto has also been embraced as a refreshing counterpoint to Knight’s Path, another medieval-themed RPG with similar mechanics. The game recently attracted controversy after its developers dismissed questions about LGBTQ+ representation, responding to a fan by stating: “We care about gaming and fun, not modern agendas.”
In contrast, 1348: Ex Voto’s confident storytelling has struck a chord, proving that inclusive narratives and compelling gameplay are not mutually exclusive and that a medieval love story between two women can feel just as epic as any legend.
