The first trailer for the highly anticipated biopic ‘The Danish Girl’ has finally landed.

Eddie Redmayne is tipped at getting a second Oscar for his portrayal of trans trailblazer, Lili Elbe, one of the first people to undergo gender reassignment surgery back in the 1920s.

The film is based on David Ebershoff’s fictionalised account of Elbe’s life as told in the 2000 novel of the same name. The story follows Danish painter Einar Wegener, who is asked by his artist wife to stand in for a female model in one of her paintings. The painting proves hugely popular, leading to Einar posing as a female model again for his wife. Einar concludes that he identifies more as a woman, and begins his life as a woman named Lili Elbe.

Ben Whishaw, Amber Heard and Rachel Weisz also star.
