The Irish Premiere of the critically acclaimed Only an Octave Apart musical is coming to The Gate Theatre on September 5-10, 2023, and GCN has a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader!
The musical starring Justin Vivian Bond and Anthony Roth Costanzo and directed by Zack Winokur is part of the theatre’s Gratecrashes strand which includes exclusive live performances featuring Ireland’s best talent.
As part of the Dublin Fringe Festival, Only an Octave Apart is: “a joyous and surprising musical fantasia, revelling in everything strange and beautiful in the coexistence of contrasts.”
Throughout the musical, the cast expresses their queer identities through unique interpretations of classical and pop tunes in what has been described as: “countertenor to counterculture.” The audience should expect to hear everything from Purcell’s 17th-century aria ‘Dido’s Lament’ to Dido’s early 2000s radio hit ‘White Flag’.
Critics are raving about the performances which land somewhere between an opera and politically subversive cabaret. Vogue said: “The show is neither cabaret nor opera, neither campy nor earnest, but some fantastic new hybrid of excitement and emotion.”
Vulture News said: “Justin Vivian Bond and Anthony Roth Costanzo were the perfect double act in this breathtaking cabaret-fantasia… the vibe was always glittering, sparkling, exquisite, enrapt.”
Tickets are on sale now, starting from €15. They’re available to purchase at gatetheatre.ie and fringefest.ie, but if you’re feeling lucky, GCN has a pair of tickets ready to give away to one lucky reader!
