In 1987, legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury recorded the album Barcelona in collaboration with opera diva Montserrat Caballé. It’s this project that underpins the spectacular Queen Classical, bringing an epic new dimension to Queen’s most beloved hits, along with the songs Freddie recorded with Montserrat, featuring a full orchestra, guest sopranos
and for the Irish version only, the entire Glória lesbian and gay choir.
“It’s a really exciting show,” says Johnny Zatylny, who has been giving his amazing take on Freddie across the world to thrilled audiences. “Wherever we go, be it Russia or Turkey or Germany, they love to hear the guest sopranos singing the Freddie and Montserrat songs with me, like ‘Barcelona’, ‘Guide Me Home’ and ‘The Fallen Priest’. But it’s not all just classical, the big anthems come quick and fast in high-octane sound too, from ‘We Are The Champions’ to ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’. “It takes you right to your limits,” says Zatylny of performing in the show. We have the feeling it will take lucky audiences there too.
‘Queen Classical’ is at The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on Saturday, February 28 at 7.30pm.
