The official website for Youth Defence, an anti-abortion group, has been hacked and replaced with an image of the Georges Street pro-equality mural.
Since this morning, visitors to website for Youth Defence, who describe themselves as “Ireland’s most active pro-life organisation”, were presented with a message urging people to vote Yes in the upcoming marriage equality referendum. The site now features Joe Caslin’s mural of two men embracing, with a simple “Vote Yes” displayed on the browser tab.
While it is unknown who hacked the website, a representative for the group told The Irish Times that the hacker needs to “get a life” and that the hack was a “complete waste of time” as the group “don’t have anything to do with the referendum”.
She added, “We do not have a stance on it.”
The hack has been reported to the Garda Cyber Crime Unit.
