Drag queen Jinkx Monsoon came out as pansexual in an episode of the YouTube series You’d Be an Iconic Guest hosted by Ziwe on Thursday, July 31. The two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner then took to the social media platform X to confirm the news that had been circulating online.
“Congratulations, I’m pansexual,” Jinkx said in a tweet that included a clip from the segment.
The Doctor Who actress is currently preparing to play Mary Todd Lincoln in a Broadway production of Oh, Mary! in New York City, having just ended her run in Pirates! The Penzance Musical. Her quick-witted appearance on Ziwe’s comedy show – which is known for eliciting viral soundbites from guests – was met with widespread praise from fans online.
Jinkx’s announcement came as she was recounting the homophobic insults yelled at her by strangers on the street.
“It’s weird to leave my Broadway theatre — where I’m, like, on Broadway, right? — and then I walk home where someone calls me [slur]. But it’s hilarious because I mean, are we talking about trans masculine or like a trans feminine, which I clearly am. I’m clearly a straight woman,” Jinkx said before correcting herself. “Well, pansexual.”
“Pansexual!” Ziwe responded.
Jinkx replied, “Yeah, but I ain’t no [slur].”
The drag queen rose to prominence on the fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, which she won. Jinkx returned to the show in 2022 for an All Stars season, which she also placed first in, becoming the only two-time winner in the program’s history.
Jinkx is known for her comedic timing and clever responses, which made her appearance on You’d Be an Iconic Guest opposite Ziwe even more entertaining to viewers.
“Ziwe with the gays are the best interviews. They’re the only ones who can volley with her like it’s nothing,” said one commenter on YouTube.
