Sligo’s LGBTQ+ community is gathering for an evening of conversation, creativity and celebration as Queer Shed Sligo hosts a special event on April 18, at the Yeats Building. Reflecting a growing demand for inclusive and safe social spaces in the North West, the night promises both meaningful dialogue and vibrant live performances.

The event will begin with a free panel discussion from 6.15pm to 7pm, centred on the theme ‘Creating Queer Community in Uncertain Times’. Hosted by Queer Shed Sligo, the discussion will bring together voices from the local community, with guest speakers to be announced.

The aim is to foster open conversation and share experiences, all while answering how queer spaces can continue to grow and thrive in regional Ireland.

Following the discussion, the evening will transition into a lively showcase of music and performance. Audiences can expect a dynamic lineup featuring Anca Ioana, The Amniotics, and a DJ set from LoveSmoke. Tickets for the performances are priced at €15 for the general public, while members of Queer Shed Sligo can attend free of charge.

Founded in March 2025, Queer Shed Sligo is a grassroots community initiative created by and for queer people in the region. The group has quickly established itself as a welcoming space that prioritises connection. Through a range of events, from craft workshops and cultural activities to mindfulness sessions and social gatherings, the organisation continues to build a strong sense of belonging for all of its members.

Co-founder Noemi Milani highlights the importance of such initiatives, noting, “There’s a real need for spaces where queer people in the North West can connect and learn new skills, in a sober, intergenerational space. This event is about open discussion, visibility, community and strengthening our presence in Sligo.”

With a growing calendar of activities planned throughout 2026, Queer Shed Sligo is part of a wider movement emerging across Ireland, inspired by the community-building success of Men’s and Women’s Sheds. This upcoming event stands as both a celebration and a call to further strengthen queer visibility and solidarity all across Ireland. You can secure a ticket here.
