RTÉ News (which traditionally issues conservative estimations of crowd sizes) reports that approximately 200 people marched on Leinster House on Saturday, January 20, in response to the lack of transgender healthcare and legal recognition for non-binary and intersex individuals.
“We’re basically looking for improved trans healthcare, improved waiting lists, informed consent, no psychiatric diagnosis- we are not a diagnosis,” Noah Halpin, committee member of ITB’s Colours Soc, who organised the protest, told GCN ahead of the march.
Organisers called for the HSE to adopt the ‘informed consent’ model, in which, following appropriate advisement about the treatment in question, the ultimate decision regarding treatment choice rests with the patient alone.
Here’s a selection of some the best social media posts about the march, by the people who were there.
