It seems that Santa Claus has come early as the fabulous 2014 winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, Conchita Wurst, is to return to the competition – as a presenter!
The Austrian songstress – who has released a single since the competition – set the competition alight and won the prize outright, much to the dismay of some conservative countries (you know which ones).
As the next Eurovision contest is to be held in her native Austria, Conchita Wurst will co-present the competition, to be held in Vienna. The singer was confirmed as host for the Green Room segment of the show, interviewing the current acts.
2015’s presenting team has been confirmed to be an all-female lineup including Mirjam Weichselbraun, Alice Tumler and Arabella Kiesbauer.
The star is also expected to perform her previous winner’s song, Rise Like a Phoenix, during the Grand Final, as is tradition for Eurovision.
In spite of the countries against her, Wurst managed to gain a number one spot on Russia’s iTunes Chart (because life is good that way).
Kathrin Zechner of broadcaster ORF said:
“The slogan of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna is Building Bridges which stands for bridges between countries, age groups, tradition and contemporary supported by the pillars of respect and self-determination. […] For me it is important to make these powerful, society-shaping women visible to an audience of some 200 million Europeans in a show Austria can be proud of. Mirjam Weichselbraun, Alice Tumler and Arabella Kiesbauer are strong, modern young women and in particular, triple-A professionals.”
Let’s hope 2015 is just as good, if not better, for Conchita Wurst.
