The 2024 Dublin Pride Run has proven to be a huge success, raising €76,016.82 for three Irish charities. The funds will be distributed equally between the worthy organisations, namely ShoutOut, LGBT Ireland and Sanctuary Runners.

The annual event is organised by the GALAS-nominated Dublin Front Runners, with this year marking its 12th edition. It took place on Friday, June 21, enjoying a huge turnout of over 1,500 LGBTQ+ people and allies.

The 2024 Dublin Pride Run featured representatives from 28 athletics clubs, alongside members of queer sports groups like Na Gaeil Aeracha, Aeracha Uladh, Belfast and Cork’s Frontrunners, the Emerald Warriors and Dublin Devils. While most participants took to Phoenix Park for the occasion, the race also welcomed virtual entries from Poland, Romania, Brazil, Canada, the UK and US.

James Moran recorded the fastest time of 16 minutes and 42 seconds, followed by Christopher O’Reilly and Owen Fletcher. Deirdre Lyons was the first woman to cross the finish line, followed by Mie Hoff and Deirdre Ní Chearbhaill. In the non-binary category, Gabriel Coleman was fastest, followed by David Ryan and Isaac Ludewig.

Winners received €125, while first and second runners-up collected €75 and €50 respectively.

However, competition wasn’t the only thing on the agenda, as the event serves as a fantastic charity fundraiser. Since its conception, the Dublin Pride Run has raised over €250,000 for worthy causes, and this year was no different.

One of the three recipients, ShoutOut promotes inclusion by delivering LGBTQ+ Educational Programmes in schools, workplaces and service providers. Meanwhile, LGBT Ireland is the national support service for the queer community, with the Pride Run funds going towards aiding carers working with LGBTQ+ seniors. Finally, Sanctuary Runners enables Irish residents to run alongside and in solidarity with migrants, asylum seekers and refugees, thereby fostering friendship, positivity and respect while raising awareness of the migration system.

Speaking about the success of this year’s fundraiser, Dublin Front Runners Chairperson Mark Armstrong said: “This money raised will go a long way for our 3 amazing charities. They work so hard for the LGBTQ+ community and Sanctuary Runners working with people seeking asylum in this country.

“In an ever hostile and divided world that we live in we want to show that we can be united and support those who are in need. We need to stand united and show empathy to those who are a minority within our society. I am over the moon that our running club has raised so much and I look forward to next year’s pride run”.
