Directed by Olivia Cappuccini, the documentary Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf is set to release in cinemas this June to tell the story of the trans model and activist’s life and career.

Made with Universal Pictures, the film navigates “a homophobic and racist upbringing, complicated family dynamics, and difficult relationships — it also highlights moments of resilience, self-discovery, and empowerment,” as said in the official description.

Munroe Bergdorf shared on Instagram that this documentary pushed her out of her comfort zone “personally, creatively and professionally.”

“I consider myself to be a pretty private person, but in this film I let you in fully. I wanted it to feel raw, intimate, honest, unflinching and hopeful.”

She also shared that she did this not just for herself, but for the trans community: “This documentary is very much a love letter to our global trans community. It is a call for change within a world where transphobia has become the status quo.”

The film is supposedly going to weave the present day with previous memories, taking viewers through an emotional, heartfelt and reality-checking watch.

When finishing filming last year, Bergdorf said: “It was a nerve-wracking experience to let Olivia Cappuccini into my world for the past few years but I’m so glad I did. She has so elegantly and sensitively captured my journey and how it has shaped me into the person I’ve become today.”

Olivia Cappuccini also directed Alexander McQueen’s McQueen and Andy Murray’s Resurfacing.

Along with releasing her new book Talk To Me, Munroe Bergdorf has also hosted a podcast and TV show, has a memoir called Transitional and is a contributing editor with British Vogue.

Apart from being an author, actor and model, the activist has also won the Attitude Pride ICON Award and been the first trans person to grace the cover of Cosmopolitan UK‘s cover. She was also the first trans person to be the face of L’Oréal, but got dropped by the makeup brand for posting about the racial violence of white people. She did receive an apology amidst the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020.

Bergdorf told Attitude when receiving her Pride ICON Award: “You’re living in a society that constantly invalidates you, telling you that you don’t exist, making it next to impossible for you to access healthcare, to find someone who loves you without fetishising you, to be able to love yourself.”

Those who go to watch it will learn about “resilience, the importance of her chosen family, and witness her healing process as she moves forward to create a joyful future on her own terms”.

Love & RageMunroe Bergdorf will be in UK and Irish cinemas on June 10.
