Russian President, Vladimir Putin, appears to have accepted Sir Elton John’s invitation to talk Russian LGBT rights over tea.

Earlier this week, Sir Elton John stated that he would “love to meet [with Putin]” to discuss Russia’s “ridiculous prejudice” against LGBT people – including the controversial “gay propaganda” law that was signed into law by the president in 2013.

Well, it seems that the notoriously homophobic politician has reached out to the iconic singer and had a chat with him over the phone.

“Thank-you to President Vladimir Putin for reaching out and speaking via telephone with me today,” he said on his Instagram page. “I look to forward to meeting with you face-to-face to discuss LGBT equality in Russia.”

There is no updates from either camp confirming whether or not a meeting will go ahead, or what was said during the phone call. Only time will tell…
