Philadelphia Rose Maria Walsh stole our hearts when she won the Rose of Tralee last week, and now we swoon harder as she reveals she is a lesbian.

“I’m not ashamed of my sexuality by any means,” Maria Walsh (27) told the Irish Sun after her Rose of Tralee win last Wednesday.

Walsh said: “The Rose of Tralee is about celebrating women’s intelligence, careers, their volunteer work. The question of sexuality never came up. To me, being gay is normal; it’s natural.”

She continued, “I’m confident in who I am as a person. I told my parents and they were supportive, as I knew they would be.”

Walsh revealed that she recently ended a two year relationship with woman, but that now she is single.

The Boston native first moved to Mayo with her family at seven years-old. She studied journalism at Griffith College Dublin before moving back to the US once she got her degree.

Congrats, Maria!
