Watch: YouTube Launches #ProudToPlay Campaign

YouTube has launched a new campaign aimed at tackling homophobia in sports, and honours LGBT athletes who have come out.

 

YouTube and parent company, Google have created an inspirational video for this year’s annual gay pride campaign #ProudToPlay. The video features many out athletes and allies, including soccer player Robbie Rogers, diver Tom Daley and basketball players Jason Collins and Brittney Griner.

Sports brings together people from all backgrounds and experiences through a shared passion, and YouTube shares that spirit of connecting diverse communities to make a difference,” said a representative from YouTube.

In celebration of the upcoming World Cup in Brazil and LGBT Pride month, we’re honoring the LGBT athletes, their supporters, as well as the YouTube Creators who stand up for diversity in sports and elsewhere—all of whom help create an equal and inclusive playing field for everyone. Inspired by #ProudToLove last year, we’re calling this effort #ProudToPlay.”

The two most visited websites in the world are also encouraging vloggers to create videos about issues that LGBT people face in sports. YouTube will the highlight selected videos over the next month.

The YouTube pride logo, which this year is a rainbow soccer ball, will also be appear on every YouTube page.
