HBO has just released a brand new teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated Season 2 of hit show The Last Of Us. To the joy of all fans, the TV network also confirmed that the show is set to release in April 2025.

Based on the popular video game franchise of the same name, The Last Of Us follows a storyline that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world two decades after the destruction of modern civilisation. After airing in January 2023, the show quickly became a sensation, blending intense action with emotionally charged moments.

The first season of the Emmy-winning drama offered a heart-wrenching storyline about young queer love, as well as an incredibly meaningful and memorable gay love story which saw Frank and Bill’s friendship evolve into an all-encompassing romance based on decades of mutual care and affection.

Now, Season 2 of The Last Of Us promises to bring new instances of queer love to our screens, as the protagonist Ellie, played by the talented Bella Ramsey, is set to meet Dina, her new love interest. Last year, the creators announced that actor Isabela Merced had been cast for the role, leaving fans overjoyed.

In the new trailer aired yesterday, January 6, fans are offered a sneak peek at the pair’s evolving bond as Dina can be seen slow-dancing with Ellie.

Elsewhere in the trailer, we catch sight of Kaitlyn Dever playing the deadly soldier Abby, who is set to be at odds with Ellie as she seeks revenge for a loved one. Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby can be seen walking through a dimly lit hallway, as flashes of images of other characters, including Pedro Pascal’s Joel, appear on the screen.

“It doesn’t matter if you have a code like me,” Abby is heard saying in the teaser. “There are just some things everyone agrees are just wrong.”

According to the official synopsis, Season 2 of The Last Of Us will follow Joel and Ellie as their “collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind”.

In addition to Isabela Merced and Kaitlyn Dever, new cast members include Beef‘s Young Mazino, Schitt’s Creek‘s Catherine O’Hara, Riverdale‘s Spencer Lord, You‘s Tati Gabrielle, Top Gun: Maverick‘s Danny Ramirez and Runaways‘ Ariela Barer.

While a specific date is yet to be announced, The Last Of Us will air on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in the UK in April 2025. Watch the trailer here.
